| 10th December 2009 | Insect EcologySpecial Interest Group."Insect Spatial Ecology" Venue: Oxford University Museum of Natural History, Parks Road, Oxford Understanding the distribution and abundance of insects has predominantly focussed on local processes such as density dependence in birth and death rates. However, it is well-known that spatial processes of dispersal, migration and immigration also affect the population biology of species. Over the last two decades the metapopulation paradigm has become central to our understanding of spatial dynamics. Insects have been widely used as model systems to test theories on spatial ecology and, more pragmatically, to develop conservation planning and strategy. The broad scope of this Insect Ecology Special Interest Group will appeal to a wide range of entomologists, ecologists and natural historians. Those interested in presenting an oral paper or poster at this meeting should contact the convenor:Mike Bonsall (University of Oxford) |
