Do you know this facts about insects ?
Insects have the greatest number of individuals living of at any one time.
It is estimated that there are approximately 10 quintillion (10,000,000,000,000,000,000)
individual insects alive.
It's hard to imagine, but 95% of all the animal species on the earth are insects
Several enlightening studies have been conducted involving the numbers of individual
insects in a given area.
In North Carolina, soil samples to a depth of 5 inches yielded a calculation that there
were approximately 124 million animals per acre, of which 90 million were mites, 28
million were springtails, and 4.5 million were other insects.
Recent figures indicate that there are more than 200 million insects for each human on

[Note this email was sent around Plymouth uni but if people who are close by and wish to come please feel free to email me and I can arrange a different place other than stated for fee collection]

Hello folk’s

After what seems like an age of procrastinating I have finally arranged a trip to Bug World at Bristol Zoo (I know that a few of you have been aware of this on the grape vine).

The trip is open to members and non members alike and will consist of a tour by the head curator of entomology Warren Spencer, and a look at the diversity and importance of insects, after that there will be a few hours to look around the rest of the zoo if you wish; the trip is costed at £10 per person which is great value for money as it includes travel and entry!

Bring your own packed lunches if you wish although food will no doubted be available at Bristol Zoo. There are only 30 spaces available so it will be a strictly first come first served basis. If you could have your money ready for me ASAP once you are on the list that would be great (as I need to get that to Bristol) money can be left at Pete Smithers office in the Davy Building, I will also arrange a day and place so people can come then if they wish.

We will be leaving from outside the University (museum side) at 08:30 on April the 4th and departing Bristol at 15:30 to hopefully return here for around 17:30ish.

If you wish to come please contact me via Email
