The post-harvest sector plays a crucial role in food supply and income generation. Food safety and standards issues are high in the public consciousness of the western world and in developing countries it is increasingly recognised that poverty reduction and sustainable development are dependent not only on crop production but also on efficient post-harvest systems. The Royal Entomological Society's Post-harvest Special Interest Group meets annually to address important themes.
