Following the latest government announcement concerning the current Covid-19 pandemic the Society headquarters at Mansion House has now closed.

Our "identify that insect" service will continue, but our Director of Science cannot accept any physical samples to inspect during this time.

Our Librarian will not have access to our collections from home, but will be happy to try and locate references available to download from the internet.

Become a Fellow

Applications for Fellowship are invited from those who have made a substantial contribution to entomology, through publications or other evidence of achievement.

As a guide, the Committee looks for the kind of achievement possible over six years of productive work.

Council meet on the first Wednesday of March, May, June, October & December.

RES Fellowship Benefits

Fellows are entitled to make use of the title "Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society" and the suffix "FRES" may be regarded as an academic qualification.

* Applicants must be over 18 years of age.

Fellowship Application Process:

  1. STEP 1 »
    Prepare Information:

    • A brief biography.
    • 250 words summarising entomological activities, interests, research.
    • A list of papers in refereed journals, or significant entomology related publications.
  2. STEP 2 »Download, complete and submit using our application form. Download Form

    Send completed form either via email to or by mail to The Mansion House, Chiswell Green Lane, St Albans, AL2 3NS.

  3. STEP 3 »
    Application will be referred to a Committee of Council, at the next scheduled meeting, who then forward a recommendation to Council.

  4. STEP 4
    If elected for Fellowship, we will contact you.

Fellowship applications are submitted to two separate readings by Council, eg. 1st reading - March, 2nd reading & election if successful - May.
