Hate Insects? Bees good\, wasps bad? Butterflies wow\, moths yuk?  \n\n\n\nHow do we come to love and hate insects\, or prefer some insects over others? And why is this a crucial question in times of climate and biodiversity crisis? \n\n\n\nA panel discussion about our perceptions of insects\, with views from researchers in science communication\, ecology\, geography\, literature and film. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAdam Hart\, University of Gloucestershire \n\n\n\nAdam Hart is Professor of Science Communication at the University of Gloucestershire. He teaches and carries out research in behaviour\, ecology and evolution. We will extract some data\, organise it\, visualise it and then analyse it. Covering some basic skill such as time analysis\, spatial analysis and touching upon some more complex methods such as adding other data sets to aquatic insect data. This workshop is aimed at those who want to understand their aquatic insect data better or for students and other who want to access data from the internet for project ideas and academia. In total 138 participants from 31 countries have registered for this event. 62 people will be present in Leiden\, 76 people will follow the congress online. The pdf of the program book is now available. It is possible that last minute changes will occur in the program.  \n\n\n\nRegistration is via the Grasshoppers of Europe website.

What does this mean for us and what can we do about it?  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJoin the Amateur Entomologists’ Society and Royal Entomological Society for a talk by Professor Camille Parmesan to discover more. \n\n\n\nThis talk\, aimed at young entomologists\, particularly those 11-14 years\, but open to all will be held online using Zoom Webinar. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nBrief BIO 2022 \n\n\n\nCamille Parmesan is Director of Research at the CNRS Station for Experimental and Theoretical Ecology (SETE\, in Moulis\, France) as a French “Make Our Planet Great Again” Laureate.  Her research focuses on the impacts of climate change on wild plants and animals and spans from field-based work on butterflies to synthetic analyses of global impacts on a broad range of species across terrestrial and marine biomes. She has also authored numerous assessments of impacts of climate change on agricultural pests and on human health\, through changes in disease risk.  Her 2003 paper in Nature was ranked the most highly cited paper in Climate Change (Carbon Brief\, 2015).  Her scientific awards include being the 2nd highest-cited author in “climate change” (T Reuters) and being named the “2013 Distinguished Scientist” by Texas Academy of Sciences. She has been elected Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences\, Fellow of the Ecological Society of America and Honorary Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society.  She received the Conservation Achievement Award by the National Wildlife Federation and was named “Outstanding Woman Working on Climate Change\,” by IUCN. She has worked with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for >20 years\, and is an official Contributor to IPCC’s Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.  She is currently a Coordinating Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 6th Assessment Report.  She also has affiliations with the University of Plymouth (UK) and the University of Texas at Austin (USA).  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nRegister on Eventbrite
