Opportunities at your Society Dec 2020 (updated)
Several opportunities are available for Members and Fellows to get involved with their Society:
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for new members of this committee, which meets four times a year in February, May, August and November. Initially meetings are virtual, but in due course we hope they can be a hybrid of virtual and in person at Mansion House.
If you are interested please contact the Committee chair Dr John Baird, he welcomes informal questions about the role.
To formally nominate yourself please send John 300 words on why you would like to join the committee and any experience you might offer. John highlights that this could be an excellent Early Career Entomologist opportunity.
REGIONAL HONORARY SECRETARIES OPPORTUNITY (updated)
The Society is seeking Regional Honorary Secretaries to replace those who have recently stood down after long and excellent service, and to fill some gaps in coverage. We currently need representatives in Wales and in Ireland (Northern and Republic combined)
The role of RHSs is currently being reviewed, but the key points will remain encouraging people to join the Society and to participate in its activities, and overseeing a programme of Regional Meetings. This doesn’t mean that you’d have to organise the meetings, but it does mean that you’d need to find people willing to do so.
RHSs are part of the Membership Committee, which meets twice a year. If you are willing to consider being a Regional Honorary Secretary, please contact me for a chat with absolutely no obligation.
The only qualifications needed are an enthusiasm for entomology and entomologists, and good organisational skills – traits that exist in the youngest students to the oldest retirees. The appointments are made by Council.
Richard Harrington (Hon. Secretary, and Chair of Meetings Committee)
