At the Royal Entomological Society (RES), our awards and grants schemes are more than a recognition and funding mechanism — they are a bridge between ambition and impact. Each year, over £75,000 is allocated to support entomological research, outreach, inclusion, and recognition.

From Small Project Grants and the Goodman Fund, to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Grants, Higher Education Bursaries and Conference Participation Grants, our programmes help both early-career and established entomologists bring their projects and ideas to life.

But to truly show how these schemes make a difference – to other researchers, funders, and the broader community – we need your voices. We invite all recipients to share testimonials about how RES recognition and funding has helped their personal development, their scientific projects, and their wider engagement with insects and society.

Why we value your testimonials

  1. Inspiration for others
Hearing from a peer who used our Small Project Grant to pilot a novel study, or who travelled to an international meeting with the aid of a Conference Participation Grant, brings our Awards and Grants programmes to life. Your story can motivate prospective applicants and demystify the application process.
  2. Evidence of impact
For the RES team, your reflections help us assess which grants are making the most difference. Donors, trustees, and potential supporters benefit when they see tangible outcomes rooted in real people and real science.
  3. Professional validation
A testimonial is also a chance for you to highlight your growth: how you overcame obstacles, gained new skills, built collaborations, or advanced your research agenda – and it can bolster your reputation in the entomological community.
  4. Community building
Your stories help knit together a community of entomologists who support one another. When you share lessons learned – the challenges, surprises, and successes – you help others avoid pitfalls and gain confidence.

How to submit your testimonial

  • Submit your responses to the questions using the form below.
  • Deadline: We accept testimonial submissions year-round, but we may feature your story in upcoming newsletters, news pages and blog posts, our seasonal bulletin Antenna, social media, or annual reports.

Some questions in this form may not be applicable to all awards/grants, and as such, all written questions are optional. Please share with us as much as possible – We’d love to hear more about your experience!

By sharing your journey, you become a champion not just of your own research, but of the RES Awards and Grants programmes, helping to sustain and expand them for future generations of entomologists.

We look forward to hearing your stories, celebrating your achievements, and continuing to build a thriving, supportive insect science community together.
