Methods, Philosophies & Ethics

Approaches in Entomology covers methods, philosophies and ethics in insect science. The journal will welcome contributions presenting novel methods and techniques, creative adaptations of existing approaches from other disciplines to entomology, and philosophical perspectives that challenge or refine how we conduct and interpret entomological research.

Topics of interest will include, amongst other things, innovations in laboratory, field, theoretical or computational techniques, new open-source equipment or tools, novel software or analytical workflows, innovative approaches to reproducibility and data sharing, and insightful examinations of experimental design, interpretation and welfare.

The aim is to attract articles from all entomological contexts, including agriculture, conservation, ecology, medically relevant insects, molecular biology, physiology, systematics, taxonomy, veterinary insects, insect welfare and beyond.

Ecological Entomology

Edited by Sheena Cotter (UK), Chuck Fox (USA), Shannon Murphy (USA), and Robert Wilson (Spain)

Ecological Entomology publishes top-quality original research on the ecology of insects and related invertebrate taxa. Our aim is to publish papers that will be of considerable interest to the wide community of ecologists who are motivated by ecological or evolutionary theory.

Insect Conservation and Diversity

Edited by Yves Basset (Panama), Raphael Didham (Australia), and Manu Saunders (Australia)

Insect Conservation and Diversity explicitly associates the two concepts of insect diversity and insect conservation for the benefit of invertebrate conservation. The journal places an emphasis on wild arthropods and specific relations between arthropod conservation and diversity.  Key topics covered in the journal will include biogeography, climate change (and its impacts on distributions and range), conservation genetics, global biodiversity, integrating conservation science and policy, and long-term planning and implementation. 

More generally, the journal is open to submissions within the area of interest of insect (and other arthropod) conservation and diversity, covering topics ranging from ecological theory to practical management.

Insect Molecular Biology

Insect Molecular Biology has been dedicated to providing researchers with the opportunity to publish high quality original research on topics broadly related to insect molecular biology since 1992. IMB is particularly interested in publishing research in insect genomics/genes and proteomics/proteins.

IMB in also interested in publishing research associated with whole genome sequencing efforts and sequence consortium coordinators are encouraged to contact the Editors for more information.

Physiological Entomology

Physiological Entomology broadly considers “how insects work” and how they are adapted to their environments at all levels from genes and molecules, anatomy and structure, to behaviour and interactions of whole organisms. We publish high quality experiment based papers reporting research on insects and other arthropods as well as occasional reviews. The broad subject coverage of the Journal includes, but is not limited to general physiology, behavioural physiology and biochemistry, neurobiology and sensory physiology, circadian rhythms and photoperiodism and chemical ecology.

Systematic Entomology

Edited by Bonnie B. Blaimer (Germany), Gael Kergoat (France), Chris Owen (USA), Emmanuel Toussaint (Switzerland), and Ligia Benavides (USA)

Systematic Entomology publishes original papers on insect, arachnid and myriapod systematics, phylogenetics and integrative taxonomy (excluding mites), with a preference for general interest papers of broad biological, evolutionary, or zoogeographical significance, specifically in the areas of arthropods, biogeography, entomology, evolutionary biology, and insect-related topics. Opinion papers, Methodological Articles and Review Articles can also be submitted.
