Big Give 2026 – Stand Tall for the Small with Insect Week 2026

This April, we asked for your support to help us provide access to education, resources and experiences with insects, and bring affordable, hands-on insect science to children, young people and communities from all walks of life across the globe.

Together with five city hubs across the UK and ROI, we plan to bring free, hands-on insect science to local communities, sharing the diversity and wonders of insects for Insect Week 2026.

To support our city hubs in Liverpool, London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Dublin, we joined forces once again with Big Give to match every £1 donated to our cause, doubling your contributions and giving us twice as much support to deliver our promise for Insect Week this year.

Following our call for donations towards this Big Give Earth Raise appeal, we secured a fantastic £10,400 in funding to support the running of free-of-charge, hands-on activities, events and resources provided at our five city hubs with a focus on disadvantaged communities, enabling people of all ages to experience insects like never before, and take part in insect science their own way.

This Insect Week, take part in wildlife walks, museum collection tours, creative art and science sessions, insect identification, citizen science, and more across Liverpool, London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Dublin – Your support enables everyone access to education, resources and experiences with insects, and brings free, hands-on insect science to children, young adults and communities from all walks of life.

Thank you for investing in Insect Week’s future growth, and for helping to enrich the world with insect science.

Big Give 2025 – Help secure a future for the Large blue butterfly

The iconic Large blue butterfly is a globally endangered species and was declared nationally extinct in 1979.

Thanks to the unique expertise of our conservation science team over the past 30+ years we have successfully reintroduced this rare species to Gloucestershire and Somerset, with new sites currently being identified. Seeing the Large blue fly across these landscapes has been a real conservation success story, one that truly bucks the trend of biodiversity decline.

However, over the course of the last ten years, there have been several extreme weather events which have seen the populations of these and associated species decline, making this iconic butterfly particularly vulnerable to climate change.

Following our call for donations towards our Big Give Green Match appeal, we are humbled by the generosity of our community. We secured an amazing £20,043 in funding to support the future of the endangered Large blue butterfly and the environments that they need to thrive. Thank you for your generous contributions towards the future of entomological research and supporting our vision to enrich the world with insect science.

Big Give 2023 Christmas – Help us secure a future for insect science

The Big Give Christmas campaign in 2023 was dedicated to securing a future for our insect education and outreach programme.

Funding for this campaign aimed to provide a greater number of funded learning opportunities at our new Insect Science Garden Stratford Cross, utilising the garden as an ideal study site for all ages, local schools and communities, with a focus on support for children with barriers to access nature and science.

Support for this campaign also helped to expand our grants and bursaries programme to support students wishing to study undergraduate and postgraduate entomological degrees to enable as many students as possible to learn vital research skills across all aspects of insect science and the world of insects.

Thank you to everyone who donated or spread the word about our Big Give Christmas Challenge. With your help, we successfully raised over £6,300 during the week of our campaign and every penny will go towards supporting our education and outreach programme, introducing new internships at the Society for young people to work with our conservation team and expanding our grants and bursaries programme to support students wishing to study undergraduate and postgraduate entomological degrees. Thank you for supporting the next generation of insect scientists.

Big Give 2023 – Help secure a future home for our insect education garden

During the week of 20-27 April 2023, we worked with the Big Give, offering us the fantastic opportunity to double all public donations received in support of our #RESGarden project, designed to inspire everyone to learn more about insects.

Our garden aims to inspire future generations of entomologists and scientists, but also to provide local wildlife to an urban garden space that offers food and shelter year-round due to its insect friendly planting scheme and layout with water elements and different habitats.

With the garden in situ at its permanent home in Stratford Cross, the Society hosts education and outreach campaigns and programmes using the garden’s outdoor laboratory and natural resources in the garden, allowing for academic research and schools to visit and for the local community to enjoy the garden year-round.

With your help, we raised £10,322 in total for our amazing scientific public resource. An excellent result and we are so thankful.
