Biological recording & species identification
Advisory and diagnostic entomologists are often the first point of contact between entomologists and the wider world. Entomology advisory services vary in scope and exist to serve a variety of important stakeholder groups such as members of the public, practitioners and policymakers. Examples can be found in a broad range of sectors including but not limited to agriculture, biodiversity, horticulture, forestry, invasive species and veterinary science. They all however share the common feature of providing a service to their customers. This usually includes insect ID, and often further customer support such as management advice for pest species.
Diagnostic and advisory services often generate data that can be used for a variety of purposes, including insect monitoring and early alerts of non-native species, adding value by extending the reach of entomologists over a much wider area and scope.
This SIG offers an opportunity for anyone with an interest in entomology diagnostics, advice and the data deriving from these services to come together to discuss, share experiences and learn from each other.
