Need help identifying an insect you’ve seen?

We have lots of insect identification resources available to the public.

First, have a look at our Intriguing insects miniguide which shows our most requested insect species to identify.

Additionally, we’ve produced a free downloadable guide named Insects in green spaces, providing an overview of the different types of insects, with advice on how you might create a place for them to live in a green space near you.

We’ve also created a Classification of insects section of our website, and have published handbooks for the identification of insects since 1949. Many are now also available as ebooks and Members are entitled to a 50% discount on print and ebooks available from our publishing partner CABI.
