Identifying insects

This service is provided free of charge to the public as part of the Royal Entomological Society's committment to public benefit. Commercial enquiriers are encouraged to make a donation to the society towards this identification service.

Please include the approximate size of the insect (body length in mm/inches) or an indication of size as a scale in the picture (e.g. a coin, ruler, measure). Please let us know the environment/habitat where the insect was seen, e.g. indoors or outdoors, and if the insect was on a plant please provide the name of the plant, if known.
Please send your best in-focus image. By submitting a picture file you give your consent for the Society to use the image for the purposes of Society communications including in our publications and on our website should it wish to do so. If this situation occurs, the Society will make reasonable attempts to contact and inform you so that due credit can be given.
Files must be less than 5 MB.
Allowed file types: gif jpg jpeg png.

By pressing 'Submit' you consent for your query to be forwarded to a Member or Fellow of the Society for identification purposes. Your data will be processed in line with our Privacy Policy.
