We are delighted to announce new Editors-in-Chief for Agriculture and Forest Entomology. Mike Garratt, Maartje Klapwijk and Daniel Leybourne and have recently joined the team and will be leading the journal alongside Chris Ranger, who has been in situ since the beginning of 2024.
They replace Laurel Haavik, Adam Vanbergen and Jordan Cuff, who have served the journal with such rigour and enthusiasm for many years. We are incredibly grateful for their service, and are delighted that Jordan is staying with us to lead our new journal, Approaches in Entomology.
The new Editors-in-Chief bring a wealth of expertise; find out more about them and why they are excited to join AFE below.
Michael Garratt
Mike is based at the University of Reading in the UK, and is interested in managing biodiversity in agricultural systems for improved sustainable food production and reduced environmental impacts. His areas of expertise include crop pollination and natural pest control, with a focus on ecological intensification through farm and landscape management.
“I am delighted to take on this role with Agriculture and Forest Entomology. I look forward to helping shape the journal, promoting applied entomological research and supporting fellow researchers working in this exciting field to developing and publish their research.”
– Michael Garratt
Maartje Klapwijk
Maartje is an associate professor at the Swedish University for Agricultural Sciences, having started there in 2009. She is based at the department of ecology in Uppsala working within the forest entomology unit. She is an ecologist working on questions related to trophic interactions and population dynamics. Currently, her work focuses on forest insects in relation to climate change and forest management.
“I am excited to the join the editorial team at AFE to contribute to the field of forest entomology beyond my own research. I am looking forward to support research at the cutting-edge, help authors strengthen their work and contribute to the general development of the journal.” – Maartje Klapwijk
Daniel Leybourne
Daniel works at the UK’s Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute. He is an agricultural and ecological entomologist. His research programme is centred around developing sustainable methods for integrated pest management and unravelling vector-(symbiont)-virus-host interactions. His work primarily covers agricultural ecosystems, with a focus on species interactions in and around arable crops.
“I am excited to join Agricultural and Forest Entomology as one of the new Editors-in-Chief. AFE has been one of my go-to journals for publication and reading in recent years, and I look forward to helping guide the development of the journal over the coming years. I am also looking forward to promoting the excellent work published in the journal and helping the contributing authors get the most out of their research.” – Daniel Leybourne
