MP Alex McIntyre visits Robinswood Hill Country Park to launch new interactive Aardman trail.
Visitors to Robinswood Hill Country Park can now shrink down to bug size and explore the world of insects this summer, thanks to a new augmented reality trail inspired by Aardman’s popular animated series Lloyd of the Flies.
Gloucester MP Alex McIntyre visited Robinswood Hill on Friday to officially launch the trail, trying out the interactive experience for himself by using the free Lloyd of the Flies app to meet a host of colourful insect characters, including Queen Libby the ant and Abacus the woodlouse.
Following his bug-sized adventure, Alex sampled some of the themed refreshments available in the café, including a “Worm Juice” drink and a homemade “Squashed Fly” biscuit.
Running from 18 July to 7 September, the Lloyd of the Flies Bug Hunt has been developed by Aardman in partnership with the Royal Entomological Society, with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust bringing the experience to Robinswood Hill for the summer holidays.
The free trail invites families to follow Lloyd’s adventure as he searches for a lost map and attempts to reunite his family at a luxury bug hotel. Along the way, visitors can discover fascinating insect facts, unlock animated augmented reality experiences and capture photos and videos with Lloyd and his friends.
To take part, visitors simply need to download the free Lloyd of the Flies app from the App Store or Google Play.
Enter the Robinswood Hill location code 4682, and follow the trail markers around the site.
At each stop, participants can scan a marker to unlock animated scenes featuring Lloyd and other characters. Once the trail has been completed, visitors can enter a free prize draw to win a £50 voucher, kindly donated by a Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust supporter.
Activity packs and sticker packs will also be available to purchase from the café, allowing children to continue the adventure at home.

They do brilliant work all year round to create places where nature can thrive and people can have fun, and it’s good to see them offering something interactive for all the family. The trail is great fun and a brilliant opportunity to learn more about wildlife, get active and spend time in nature too.
