We are delighted to welcome the University of Reading as a new Bronze Organisational Member of the Royal Entomological Society (RES), strengthening a long-standing relationship between two organisations with a shared commitment to advancing insect science.
The University of Reading has a strong tradition of entomological research, teaching and engagement. Its MSc by Research in Entomology provides students with practical experience in insect identification, field and laboratory techniques, ecology and research, while the University is also home to a range of expertise spanning ecology, evolution and insect science.
Our relationship with Reading has already supported a number of exciting opportunities for the entomological community – The University hosted the RES Student Forum 2025, bringing together students and researchers for two days of talks, workshops, networking and careers advice. Reading has also supported the Society through its involvement in our conferences, including as an exhibitor at Ento25 and Ento26.
The partnership also reflects a shared commitment to supporting the next generation of entomologists. The RES has previously supported Reading’s MSc by Research Entomology through our Higher Education Bursary scheme, helping students develop the specialist skills needed for careers in insect science.
As a Bronze Organisational Member, the University of Reading joins a growing network of organisations that support the study, conservation, control, and appreciation of insects, a critical but often overlooked component of our planet’s biodiversity. Together, we can help strengthen the future of entomology and create more opportunities for students, researchers and practitioners to connect, share knowledge and contribute to a greater understanding and appreciation of insects and their importance to the natural world.
